August Issue
The BMP Newsletter is back after a 6-month break! In this issue, we will talk about starting the new academic year ahead as well as some potential opportunities for you to get involved in!
ššæ Welcome Back!
Itās been exactly 6 months since our last issue, and a lot has been going on since then! The BMP team have beenĀ strategisingĀ behind the scenes for the year ahead, with many things in theĀ pipelineĀ in what looks to be anĀ excitingĀ few months ahead.
If you are keen to join theĀ networkĀ and meet otherĀ like-minded black medical students across the UK, feel free to sign up, and weāll be in touch to get you added to our group chats!
š Back to Medical School
With summer ending, we are reminded that medical school isĀ loomingĀ and very much upon us! However, for some of you in your clinical years, you may have already started before the end of summer (you are in our prayers!)
For others (like myself), you may also be starting your intercalated degree and being completely out of yourĀ comfort zoneĀ with new modules to prepare for.
Whatever your situation, here atĀ BMP, weād like you to beĀ preparedĀ for the year. As medical students, our circumstances areĀ unique, and we have theĀ privilegeĀ of interacting with patients from various backgrounds. At times, we can also get involved inĀ proceduresĀ and play anĀ activeĀ part in a patientās care plan.
This can feel like a lot ofĀ responsibility, and going on clinical placement can underline the importance ofĀ professionalism. As such, it is vital that you already have professional protection in place through medicolegal services, as this will also be a mainstay of your career.
Professional protection can assist you with anyĀ medicolegalĀ problems that might arise from your work on placement which is always a consideration when interacting with patients. To help you with this,Ā BMP and SocietyĀ have collaborated to enable every BMP Network member to gain free membership and protection withĀ Medical Protection Society (MPS). All you need to do isĀ sign up!
